Folic acid antagonist. Dihydrofolate reductase is inhibited, so that the conversion step from dihydrofolic acid to tetrahydrofolic acid is blocked. Monotherapy is now used only in uncomplicated urinary tract infections. The combination with a sulphonamide is more common. Click here for MSDS
