Lithium is used as guideline-compliant therapy in psychiatry for disorders such as bipolar affective disorders, mania and depression, and as a treatment option in cluster headache.
Its use in neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and post-COVID is newly being discussed among experts.
As lithium is not yet classified as an essential trace element and the daily requirement is not yet precisely known, there is no reference value.
