Liquid paraffins are purified mixtures of liquid, saturated hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum. The components are mainly branched alkanes and cycloalkanes. Liquid paraffins are used to influence the consistency of ointment bases, in oily nasal drops and in the oil phase of dermatological preparations.
